About Bulfer's Fine Jewelry

Bulfer’s Fine Jewelry is owned by Gary Bulfer, who proudly displays a piece in the Smithsonian. He began in the jewelry business at the age of 15, working side-by-side with his father, a certified master watch and clock-maker. He then joined Otto Schmeider & Sons in Phoenix, Arizona, where he worked as a bench jeweler for 5 years. During this time, he had the honor of being chosen to create a challenging piece of jewelry to showcase a large quartz being donated to the Smithsonian.

Shortly afterwards, Weisfield Jewelers actively pursued, and ultimately hired, Gary Bulfer to oversee their “Mounting Promotion” program for the Southwestern region of the U.S., a postion which entailed traveling from store to store with literally thousands of pieces of jewelry ready to be set with the center stone of the customer’s choice. He perfected his design and setting skills during these promotions.

In 1990, J. Jessop & Sons, located in the Mission Valley area of San Diego, hired Gary to be in charge of their custom jewelry design and repair department. The following year, in April of 1991, Gary Bulfer opened his own store on Girard Avenue in the village of La Jolla, where he and his staff have proudly served the local community over the past 16 years. Bulfer’s has also built up a large clientele of customers from all parts of California and the U.S. Consistency in producing fine, high-quality pieces of custom-designed jewelry, emphasis on customer satisfaction, and assurance in knowing that Bulfer’s is a name to be trusted, all contribute to Bulfer’s continuing reputation as the place where “customers send their friends.”
